2023 Top 4 Movies, So Far - Christian Answers Spotlight Edition

Image
I LOVE ChristianAnswers.net and love to look at how the site perceives popular culture.  Kinda sad, I know, but it's always good to know what the other side of an argument thinks of you. In 2023, there have been some huge film releases. Let's see what Spotlight, their movie review site says and remember in the comments, it's their opinion, not mine. 1)  Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is currently sitting at the top of the 2023 box office with $168,801,086 as of 02/28/23. Moral Rating: Offensive "LESSONS: ...GOD. Kang is the obvious ‘devil’ character, who fell ‘from above’ to this world beneath ours, a terrifying world imbued with red tones, a surreal stand-in for h*ll. The devil imagery continues in a scene where Cassie appears to have drunk blood and her mouth and chin are still covered with it. The red ooze allows them to understand the other life forms, so by drinking it they gain understanding. This harkens back to the fruit of the tree of knowledge (Gen...

Why It’s a Good Thing Marvel Is Slowing Its Roll in 2023

Image
Marvel Studios is preparing to slow down its annual output, which couldn't come at a better time. By Douglas Laman for Collider In talking about the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the wake of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’s release, Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige revealed that the studio would be slowing down its annual output. Marvel Studios wasn’t about to slim down to just one movie per year, but this outfit was angling to make its individual projects and especially its Disney+ shows feel special. This couldn’t come at a better time for the franchise. After the last few years of near-monthly doses of Marvel Studios programming and features, this saga needs to slow its roll now more than ever. When the MCU Began, They Only Made Two Movies a Year Back when Marvel Studios started this whole operation back in 2008, the plan was only for the company to produce two movies annually. There were hopes of eventually getting to a point where Marvel Studios could pro...

Charlie Kirk’s Fixation on ‘Witches’ Is Amusing Until You Realize The Rhetoric Sounds Familiar

Image
By Cammy Pedroja for The MarySue Marvel Studios Listen up, sisters of the dark arts, conservative white dude and talk show host Charlie Kirk says witches do have power if “they’re really into it.” So take that as your Monday motivation to work a little harder on your alters, get out your spellbooks, and make plans to charge your crystals during next week’s full moon. It’s extra important because Kirk believes witches may have the power to influence the outcome of the Georgia grand jury’s impending indictments decision, including whether or not former Prez Trump will be brought to task. But why is Kirk afraid witches are wielding inordinate power over this court decision? Because the grand jury’s foreperson, Emily Kohrs, according to Kirk, looks like she likes Harry Potter.  “As soon as I saw a video of her, I said, whoa, that is someone who thinks they’re Hermione Granger. Like, totally. Like, she is larping on live television,” Kirk lamented to his viewers. He declared that Kohrs ...

Image
By John Squires for Bloody Disgusting In the wake of Guillermo del Toro’s two Hellboy movies and the 2019 reboot directed by Neil Marshall, it looks like Hellboy may be returning with a fourth live action movie sometime soon. Discussing Film exclusively reports this week that Millennium Media is “actively developing a new live-action Hellboy film, which has already been written with a director attached.” According to the site’s sources, Brian Taylor (Crank, Gamer, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, Mom and Dad) has been chosen to direct the upcoming movie for Millennium. Discussing Film also reports that the project’s current working title is Hellboy: The Crooked Man, which might suggest it’s an adaptation of a comic book story from 2008. In the 3-issue series, Hellboy confronts a minion of the devil in 1950s Appalachia. The new movie could begin filming as soon as April in Bulgaria, the site also notes. Trans Witches Are Witches: Queer gamers launch Hogwarts Legacy alternative

Image
The magic-themed bundle of video games, short stories, music and other content highlights independent LGBTQ creators. By Emma Sánchez for NBC News A newly launched collection of magic-themed video games and other content from queer creators promises “witchcraft and wizardry without the transphobia, antisemitism, and alt-right grifters.” Curated by gaming outlet KRITIQAL, the Trans Witches Are Witches gaming bundle was created in response to Friday’s wide release of the “Harry Potter” video game Hogwarts Legacy. The highly anticipated game has been marred with controversy since it was first announced more than two years ago, due to “Harry Potter” creator J.K. Rowling’s outspoken views on the transgender community, which many have called transphobic.  While Rowling was not directly involved in the development of Hogwarts Legacy, according to the game’s official website, the game’s release ignited protests and boycotts. The Trans Witches Are Witches package includes 69 magic-themed ...

Review - SKINAMARINK (2022) 7 out of 10 Broomsticks

Image
SKINAMARINK 2022, Horror, 1h 39m One Sentence Synopsis: Two children wake up in the middle of the night to find their Parents are missing, and all the windows and doors in their home have vanished. Written, Produced, and Directed by: Kyle Edward Ball SPOILERS!!! I have many thoughts about this film and I'm just beginning to translate the feelings I have about it.  First, if you are not a fan of The Blair Witch Project , don't even attempt to watch this. It is divisive and to call it a slow burn is a major understatement. If you are into jump scares, fast facing, and gory visuals, don't even attempt it. You will be in agony for its almost 2 hour run time. Skinamarink is a claustrophobic, uncomfortable experience with an ambiguous pay off. It will leave you wanting. It will leave you with a nightmarish stone that lays in your brain to translate and try an be able to tell others why they should join you in this fever dream. It understands our fears.  It's an experien...

Mummified cats, potion bottles and witch amulets: inside Scotland’s new museum of witchcraft

Image
By Kirsten Robertson for Metro.co.uk Ash Mill has spent years curating his curious collection (Picture: SWNS) Edinburgh’s cobbled streets hold a vast amount of dark history – from the infamous body snatchers to the witch executions carried out atop the Royal Mile. The Scottish capital’s past has also often blurred the line between fact and fiction, boasting a wide range of myths and legends. Now, for the first time, all will be brought together in the country’s very first museum of witchcraft, magic and fortune-telling. Mummified animals, mystical amulets and even ‘potion’ bottles that once belonged to people branded witches will all be displayed. The museum features objects dating from the 17th century to the modern day which reflect the beliefs and practice of Magic, spiritualism and the occult. It also will be ‘guarded’ by a 19th century ram horn on the wall, which is said to protect all items within the building. The museum’s founder Ash Mills, 35, told Metro.co.uk: ‘Putting aside ...
