2023 Top 4 Movies, So Far - Christian Answers Spotlight Edition

I LOVE ChristianAnswers.net and love to look at how the site perceives popular culture.

Kinda sad, I know, but it's always good to know what the other side of an argument thinks of you.

In 2023, there have been some huge film releases. Let's see what Spotlight, their movie review site says and remember in the comments, it's their opinion, not mine.

1) Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is currently sitting at the top of the 2023 box office with $168,801,086 as of 02/28/23.

Moral Rating: Offensive

"LESSONS: ...GOD. Kang is the obvious ‘devil’ character, who fell ‘from above’ to this world beneath ours, a terrifying world imbued with red tones, a surreal stand-in for h*ll. The devil imagery continues in a scene where Cassie appears to have drunk blood and her mouth and chin are still covered with it. The red ooze allows them to understand the other life forms, so by drinking it they gain understanding. This harkens back to the fruit of the tree of knowledge (Genesis 3), but why is there blatant blood drinking imagery at all? This feels demonic and associated with worship of demons that some celebrities admit to. Plus, who among us doesn’t wipe their chin after drinking sloppily?

As for who sent Kang to this place, we learn that he was banished to this nether world by a trio of beings, a not so veiled reference to God’s holy Trinity, who are very much like Kang in both strength and character. This is the story no doubt the devil tells himself, that he is God’s equal when he and other angels are mere creations of God, and it was the devil’s own conceit that made him fall as Jesus himself testifies.

“And He said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.” —Luke 10:18"

2) M3GAN with $94,561,910 since it's January 6 debut.

Moral Rating: Offensive

"Lessons
Cady encounters one of the most difficult struggles a child, or even an adult for that matter, will ever have to go through at such a young age: the loss of her parents. When Gemma is given guardianship over Cady, she doesn’t know how to help Cady with the loss of her parents so she tries to distract her with M3gan—with technology. Technology is ONLY a distraction.

Grief is a complex emotion, one that very few people know how to process. Hollywood’s answers are often to shrug their shoulders or say “let it out” or any other option that doesn’t acknowledge turning to the One who can truly carry us through our grief, Jesus.

Jesus knows our pain, He knows our suffering. He cries when we cry, He grieves when we grieve. We can come to Him and to the Father we are in mourning, or confused, or in pain."

3) 80 for Brady came out a couple of weeks ago and sits at $36,708,181, but so far, no main review.

4) Knock at the Cabin came out February 3rd also, and is at $34,044,675.

Moral Rating: Very Offensive

"This past year a number of films have brought an agenda of alternative lifestyle acceptance to the forefront asking us to look at the phenomenon not so much with open eyes as with rose-colored glasses. The Hollywood studios have offered us “Bro,” “Spoiler Alert,” and “The Whale,” and each one has done poorly at the box office. During the same period there have been some independent directors who, although they most likely subscribe to a sexual liberation ethos, do not shy away from its consequences. Terence Davies’ “Benediction,” Sebastian Meise’s “Great Freedom,” and Bruce LaBruce’s “Saint-Narcisse” refuse to ignore what can happen when tried and true family units are forsaken for untested alternative arrangements. I do not recommend those films to a Christian audience because they too often border on the obscene, but I cannot deny their honesty, their even-handedness, and their respect for an audience."
