A Disney Channel star left fans stunned after she claims her church urged her to quit her role on Wizards of Waverly Place because it "was witchcraft".
Jennifer Stone delighted fans with wildly creative outfits as her character Harper Finkle, who was best friends with Selena Gomez's character Alex Russo.
The character was known for her dresses - including one made from felt tip pens - and her bubbly personality.
But the show could have been very different had the red-haired actress turned down her role like she was urged to by her "southern Baptist church".
In an episode of the Wizards of Waverly Podcast, Selena Gomez claimed she knew some kids "weren't allowed to watch us because it was wizardry".
However, Jennifer, who starred at the show, claimed she was urged to quit for similar reasons.
She said: "Literally, my sweet southern Baptist church told me that I had to quit the show because it was witchcraft.
"I was like 'I won't be doing that, thank you though.'"
Her co-stars, Selena and David DeLuise (who played dad Jerry Russo) were so stunned their jaws dropped and Selena burst out laughing.
Viewers who heard a clip of the podcast on TikTok were also left stunned by the claims as they took to the comments in hysterics over the claims.
One user said: "My parents didn’t care. I feel for y’all wtf that’s so weird."
Another commented: "Some people do too much fr."
A third wrote: "Bahaha thank you tho." [sic]
However, there were a few people in the comments who responded saying they were one of the kids who weren't allowed to watch it for this reason.
A viewer explained: "I wasn't allowed to watch Wizards of Waverly Place for that reason."
